Kinfo
Web app, 2008
WHAT: A social network for your extended family, with a wiki approach to genealogy.
HOW: It started as my Master's Thesis at NYU and became a startup that raised a $5M Series A.
WHY: I was fascinated by the idea that we are all related to each other, and wanted to make the familial connections between us all.
WHO: For anyone curious about their living family or ancestors.
It’s not a Family Tree, it’s a Family Hedge
The heart of the application is the family “hedge”, an innovative way to explore your family, your family’s family, and so on.
Family Photo College
Kinfo’s main function is the sharing of family photos, which are all pooled together to create a massive collaborative family album. You can browse through the collage by Person, Event, or Year.
Branding
I sketched the intertwined trees logo on a scrap of paper. Translating it to a perfect vector illustration was...not easy.
