Matty is a product designer who:

  • Grew up in West Hollywood drawing lots of inventions

  • Moved to Santa Cruz to study Theatrical Set Design at UC Santa Cruz

  • Moved back to L.A. to be a production assistant on Titanic

  • Moved to San Francisco to work as a web programmer and got really into Flash

  • Moved to Tokyo to work for Dentsu as a Senior Design Technologist

  • Moved to Italy and started a Master’s Program at the Interaction Design Institute of Ivrea

  • Moved to New York City and finished a Master’s Program at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP)

  • Founded a 10-person, Series A funded startup called Kinfo based on his Master’s Thesis

  • Worked at Intuit as a UX Designer and Innovation Catalyst

  • Worked at Gannett doing Design Thinking

  • Founded a 3-person, Angel-funded startup called System Financial based on his experience fixing other people’s finances

  • Worked for a few more startups

  • Took the Pandemic as an opportunity to learn to solve the Rubik’s Cube, learn to bake bundt cakes, and get back into programming

  • Moved to Portland to buy a house and experience seasons

…AND YES, HE INVENTED WAKE N’ BACON, THE BACON ALARM CLOCK THAT FAMOUSLY APPEARED ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA AND SHARK TANK AND WAS REFERENCED IN THE OFFICE. LOOK—IT WAS SHARK TANK THAT CALLED HIM. WHO WAS HE TO TURN THEM DOWN? IT SEEMED LIKE IT WOULD BECOME A GOOD STORY TO TELL ONE DAY…
